Getting down on one knee to propose is one of the biggest moments of your life. Here are some special ways to pop the question.
If you have planned your proposal down to the last finite detail, make sure that you tell your special someone to wear something pretty – and “venue appropriate”. It is a moment that she will remember forever, so it’s important that she looks and feels her best. In terms of the proposal itself, don’t underestimate the beauty of nature, as your backdrop.
Create a special ambience and go OTT with her favourite flowers. This is easier to pull off, if you are tying it in with another big celebration, such as Valentine’s Day or her birthday. However, if your beloved is a private person, a romantic dinner at home might be best.
Proposing on holiday is always a good idea – you’ll both be relaxed, taking in the scenery on your latest adventure and no doubt somewhere magical and romantic. Have an idea or activity in mind, but be flexible in your approach… especially if things like the weather aren’t playing along.
The other option is to go completely overboard and propose in an unusual way. This is a must if you have a shared activity that you love, such as scuba diving, or if you are ticking something off your bucket list together, such as sky diving.
Make sure you have some bubbles close on hand – or whatever her favourite tipple is – so that the two of you can celebrate!
As much as possible, try to keep your proposal a surprise. So if you have quizzed her best friend or her mom on ring options, make sure that you don’t tell anyone else – that way, there’s less of a chance of someone slipping up.
Take inspiration from your everyday life. If your favourite thing to do together is take your dogs for a walk on the beach, then this should be on the top of your list. You’ll turn an ordinary moment into a timeless memory – and she will remember it every time you go for a walk on the beach afterwards.
A quiet moment between the two of you at another celebration is extra special. Just make sure that you don’t steal someone else’s thunder. So proposing at someone else’s birthday or wedding is okay – but maybe double check with them beforehand.
However you choose to propose, make sure that you document it – and call your parents and loved ones first before you post it all over social media. Good luck!
