This year on the 27th September, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) celebrates World Tourism Day (WTD), highlighting travel and tourism around the globe. the forum embassy hill, one of the iconic properties of the forum company portfolio, is nestled in the Constantia Valley which is a popular tourist destination for both local and international visitors.

Here you find South Africa’s oldest wine producing region with a number of award-winning wine estates including Groot Constantia, South Africa’s very first wine farm, which is a must-see on our list. We also recommend visiting Constantia Glen where you can taste a variety of champion wines and enjoy an alfresco cheese and charcuterie platter or a scrumptious summer salad. The Constantia Valley is convenient for globetrotters and day trippers alike - accessible with a short 20 minute drive from the City - and although most famous for its wine route with wine tastings, cellar tours and lots of great food - there is plenty more to explore and experience.

Constantia is renowned for its beauty and exceptional landscape and is a great destination for a range of outdoors activities like adrenaline inducing zip-lining offered by the Cape Town Zipline tour; mountain biking at the Chris Nixon Bike Park or great family fun at the Acrobranch Adventure Park. The Constantia greenbelt also has other outdoor alternatives like trail-running, hiking and walking, with a variety of routes suitable for all levels of fitness and endurance. One of our favourites is to head to the Cecilia Forest (bordering embassy hill) and meander through the  majestic trees before entering the dense vegetation which is an oasis of shade in the hot season.

Not all exercise has to be outdoors - Carrie Bradshaw (Sex & the City) said Shopping is my Cardio and she would know! Constantia Valley has plenty of spots to indulge in some retail therapy with fashion boutiques, jewellery shops, antique dealers, art galleries and lifestyle stores as well as some exceptional markets. If you are a lover of  precious, rare and collectable treasures, diarise the Alphen Antiques and Collectables Market which takes place every second and fourth Sunday of the month. If a healthful lifestyle interests you why not pop into the Constantia Waldorf Organic Market (Fridays from 11am) which has an excellent variety of fresh produce or The Vegan Good Market (last Sunday of the month) which is is a monthly market focused on ethical, plant-based food.

We suggest all visitors to this region consider a trip to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden which is positioned on the eastern foot of Table Mountain and has earned a reputation as one of the greatest Botanical Gardens of the world. There are many ways to explore this national treasure including the Tree Canopy Walkway and the Mountain Bike Transit Route, which covers part of Cecilia Forest as well as the Newlands Forest. Of course you can simply enjoy the gardens on your own by foot - with a delicious homemade picnic or a hamper from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room or  on-site Moyo restaurant.

Mark your diary with World Tourism Day, 27th September 2018, and get your adventure started. Never stop exploring!
